Root Farm August at the Farm – 1940s to 1961

Uncle Ralph and Aunt Olive bought the Calef Farm in 1938.  Grandpa Root bought the house at the crossroad in 1946.

Root Farm Marine Lodge Cottages – 1955 to 1962

With four weeks of vacation, the family spent two weeks on Cape Cod followed by two weeks with Grandpa and Grandma Root.

X-Bar-A X-Bar-A Guest Ranch – August 1963

A bit south and east of McLeod, Montana, along the Boulder River and the Gallatin Mountains, Boland and Helen Clark offered a western adventure at their working ranch.

Science Camp Explorer Science Camp – 1963 & 1964

The Science Camp was established in 1961, near Camp Siwanoy.  The six-week Advanced program was added in 1964.

Tesla Coil Space-Era Science Fairs – 1960s

The movie October Sky is an excellent rendition of the Space Race and Cold War emphasis on science and technology in American schools.  My brothers and I were there.

ARRL   Handbook VHF Amateur Radio – 1960s

With an electronic workshop in the basement and a listening perch in the attic, I built a VHF receiver and collected several dozen 'QSL card' station report confirmations.

NY World Fair New York City Adventures – 1964 to 1966

Growing up next door to New York City in the 1960s provided an unusual assortment of opportunities for a teenager.

S/360-50 Mainframes & Minicomputers – 1965 to 1978

I first learned computer programming in 1965, an IBM 1620 that used decimal arithmetic.  Your basic cell phone today is more powerful than IBM's water-cooled mainframes of 1974.
